Gardiner, in Southwest Montana, is at the North entrance to Yellowstone National Park and is the Park's only year round entrance. With the Yellowstone River running through it, the town is nestled in Paradise Valley. Gardiner has the atmosphere of a quaint western town, complete with Yellowstone Elk meandering through town.
Besides having a prominent backdrop, the Roosevelt Arch is arguably the most unique characteristic in Gardiner. This arch, at the Yellowstone Park entrance, was dedicated by President Theodore Roosevelt on 24 April 1903. The arch is visible two miles north of Gardiner on Highway 89. During winter months, Yellowstone Country is magically transformed by a blanket of snow into a winter wonderland where cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling are popular activities.
